I hope you will fall in
love with sea turtles too!
Dear friends,
The first time I saw a nest boil over was on a warm summer night
on Oak Island in North Carolina. It was fascinating to watch the
108 tiny turtles climbing over each other to get out of the
nest! They instinctively knew to head toward the ocean. It was a
magical night, which I will never forget!
I have thoroughly enjoyed many educational conversations with
the Oak Island sea turtle nest volunteers over the years.
Sitting at the nests while hoping to see them hatch has quickly
became one of my favorite things to do every year. The more I
learned, the more I wanted to know.
Unfortunately, I found out that all of the sea turtles in the
U.S. are considered endangered or threatened. It is widely
thought that out of one thousand sea turtle eggs, only one
hatchling will make it to adulthood. There are many things we
can do to help. I hope you enjoy the following intriguing
information and learn how you can be a part of helping to
preserve these incredible reptiles!
Love,
Jean
